Unknown Illness

My wife has some pretty weird things going on with her body and nobody has an answer. She get bulges that pop up on her body all over the place. They are extremely painful and take less than 3 minutes to appear. You can literally watch one pop out. If you massage them sometimes they will go away. Muscles are like 2x4 boards. That part might be Fibromyalgia. But the bulges has gotten so bad she can't walk much anymore. Our doctor had no idea how to fix it. We are looking for someone who might know what it is. We are desperate for an answer. The pain is pretty bad.

I was watching mystery diagnosis lastnight and this guy had strange symptoms and left his doctors stumped.  Finally a doctor did a blood test to test for an autoimmune disease.  Ask your doctor about this blood test.

I asked the Doc about the IVIG therapy and he said since they don't know whats wrong that would be a dangerous thing to do. It might be part of the answer but only if some of this is caused by some kind of Auto Immune condition.

I just stumbled upon a website that might be helpful:  www.rarediseases.org  They have a *huge* database of rare diseases--it would take months to read them all individually, but it may have an answer.

Another possibility (and it's mentioned on the home page of this website), is to send your wife to the NIH--the NIH started a rare diseases program, and it sounds like your wife would be a candidate for that...

(Though I would do the IVIG anyway ASAP--I think it could really help her!)

I'm not a doctor or a scientist, so I'm just throwing my thoughts out there--

It could be a virus or these bumps could be something to do with her immune system.  It's very expensive, but I would recommend she try a course of IVIG.  I would do 80-100grams (the MS dose) and see if that helps.
