Lung Surgery

My Husband is 49 he is in Philippines as he is a pilot, became ill after breaking ribs in accident, Doc now says scar tissue on lungs and needs to be removed surgery planned or Friday. Where can I ind informationon this surgery and the recovery period

I was surprised that you husband couldn't be returned to the USA for surgery.  But there must be well qualified doctors in the Philippines too.

Hope too this doesn't cause problems with his career as a pilot, I understand the physical requirements are very strict.

Hi, the prognosis or recovery after surgery will depend on the extent of fibrosis or scar tissue in the lungs. How was the lung functioning tests prior to surgery?  This should improve post surgery. You will have to discuss about this with your treating doctor, as the surgery done will be planned based on the extent of damage to the lungs. Good luck with his surgery and hope he recovers well.
