chronic sore throat

Have had a "sore" throat since mid June 2009. Sometimes sore but mostly sounds like a frog in  my throat, (thick mucous) prevents me from talking in normal tone. Some days a small amt chest pain with sore throat but very slight and usually goes away by afternoon. Have to clear throat often though may not allow voice to come back, occasional itchy throat and dry coughs. Jay in Marietta GA-- ***@****--

There is more information on the symptoms you all describe here, and a forum where many of us suffering from this are beginning to post and build a community.  I have been dealing with this for three years now, and many others on the blog have been dealing with it longer.  this site filters links so i'm gonna break it apart.  If the link gets filtered, do a google search for "chronic sore throat mood virus" and click on the link that should be right near the top that is a word press blog.

lets try to trick trick the word filter...

It sounds like your throat situation started just about the same time mine did. Daily sore throat, crackly, itchy voice. It started for me with post nasal drip and thick mucus. No yellow mucus, mostly clear. Sometimes, tiny bits of blood in my sputum.

I've had something similar for more than 6 months now. Occasional dry cough, daily sore throat (slightly worse on one side), and mucus deep in throat (i.e. not post-nasal drip in origin). My ENT said the vocal chords were inflamed, and my GI doc responded by saying that ENT's always say that. Both of them are in any case perplexed. So am I.

My chronic sore throat is accompanied by some additional gastro symptoms. A 6-wk trial with a PPI (2x/day Prevacid) didn't help the soreness or anything else at all. While I keep looking for a solution, I find that warm tea helps. Either fresh ginger root tea or the "throat coat" teas you see in the grocery stores. I hope you find a resolution soon (and, of course, if you do - please do share the details).

I've had a sore throat and swollen glands on and off for about four weeks now.   I just talked to a friend who went through the same thing in June.  She went to the doctor...three times...and they kept trying different stuff to no avail.

It seems that it might just be a stubborn virus that needs to run its course.   At least that's what I'm hoping.
