Roughly five days after having sex with my girlfriend I started to notice discomfort in the tip of my penis. It grew gradually worse and I started to notice a discharge, the area around the opening was slightly swollen, discomfort while urinating, and frequent urination. A week later I went to the clinic and gave a urine sample for gonorrhea and chlamydia testing which would yield results in about a week. In the meantime the CNM agreed that it was likely one of those two and treated me with zithromax and cerftriaxone, and told me to abstain from sex for one week (I have not been sexually active since going to the clinic).
During the week I was waiting for the results the treatment seemed to work, the symptoms began going away, and at the end of the week I was symptom free.
A week and a half later I finally get the results back, both negative. The nurse suggests that the symptoms might have been from some other form of infection that cleared up with the antibiotic treatment.
But today I started noticing a return of the discomfort and possibly of discharge and frequent need to urinate. It seems strange that after being symptom free, and testing negative that I would have a return of symptoms.
I'm wondering what other potential causes could there be to explain these recurring symptoms? The only guess I have (and it's not a very good one) is potentially bacterial prostatitis that began clearing up with the zythromax but wasn't fully wiped out. Is that possible?
Any ideas or suggestions would be a big help
