I am a single male and might have HPV, what now?

My ex-girlfriend and I (M/30) recently broke up, and she just told me she is diagnosed with HPV, the one that causes cervical cancer. That means that I most likely have it too.

I know it usually does not cause health problems in men. But what does that mean for my future sex life? If I date someone knew, do I have to tell her -- even though I don't know for sure that I have it? (I know there is no test for men.) What if she performs unprotected oral sex on me? Is that dangerous for her?

If I really have it, will my body eventually get rid of it? How long does it take?

jess - the types of hpv that are associated with cervical cancer and penile cancer don't present with obvious warts. just a fyi.

Most strains of HPV will eventually leave the body in about a year.   Just because your partner has HPV doesn't mean you will get some sort of testicular cancer, or wart, but you are at risk for them.     In reality HPV could mean its nothing or it could mean it is something.   You ex should talk to her OB/GYN about this and what it could mean for her partners.

I think what most of us (males) are afraid of are genital warts and maybe testicular/prostate cancer if your above 45, but I'll say
if you haven't seen any symptoms of warts, then your fine.

Thanks for your reply. I know that it could have been from someone else in the first place. But regardless, I might have it now from her ...
I fixed the gender information in the profile; it seems female was just the default when I registered.

it's helpful when you list your gender as the appropriate gender. less confusing that way - thanks!  currently you are listed as female.

we don't have commercially available hpv tests for males. no easy way to know if you have hpv or not.  Your ex gf could've had hpv prior to meeting you or contracted it from you - hard to tell sometimes. Most types of hpv take years before they cause abnormal pap results to be detected but not all
