Chlamydia reinfection chances with PROTECTED vaginal penetration?

A couple days before being diagnosed with vaginal chlamydia (and I had signs), I had PROTECTED intercourse with a friend of mine. 13 days later, and the night before my last two antibiotics, we had another sexual encounter. Of course I said no intercourse but it ended up us having him penetrate me for a short time WITH a condom anyway. He was protected, he did not ejaculate in me, and it was a short time.

He had not gone to be tested I should note. I am not showing signs or anything though and I do have a follow-up on the 18th. I'd like to know...

1). What were tha chances of me infecting him when we had protected vaginal intercourse the first time? He did ejaculate into the condom.

2). Supposing he had been infected, what were the chances of him reinfecting me after penetrating me with a condom for a short time but not ejaculating?

Well, keep in mind that the chances of re-infection are low.  You can skip the appt on the 18th if you want, but call with plenty of advance notice if you need to cancel.

And I've never heard of an std clinic turning people away for multiple visits.  That *****.

I can't go to an STD clinic because I had just gone in March when I have a cyst. Then after that I tried to go again for somethign similar, which was a false alarm, and they said (rather arrogantly, the guy was a jerk) I can't just go when I want to or whatever and I have to wait 6 months or something. So I had to go to the health department for that issue. Then for what would be my UTI I made an appointment for the health department but cancelled because I couldn't wait for the appointment and they don't like when people cancel, so I had to go to the walk-in and then ot this sliding-scale place. The walk-in is expensive and I still have a bill from before for something that I have to pay (but can't) and the sliding-scale place is what I have an appointment for as far as the 18th. But when I tried to get tested there before after the STD clinic rejected me they said I had to have symptoms to be checked. So after the 18th, if it keeps going like I am now where I don't have symptoms but I got my period and am SCARED something may have been a symptom, they couldn't take me because they just cannot afford to do it.

As for insurance, I was offered soem temporary insurance through the hoispital with which the walk-in is affiliated. I'm working on that now but I don't knwo when that kicks in.

At this point though, I'm a nervous wreck and everything is freaking me out. I'm just starting not to give a **** and reseigning myself to just WAITNG to be in a bunch of pain again. The weather here just got warm, summer is coming as well as Father's Day and everybody's birthday (including mine, July 5th) but I guess I can't enjoy any of it because I can't get peace of mind..

If you don't have insurance, call your local health dept and ask about std clinics, or what services they offer those without insurance.

You can try Planned Parenthood, though that can get expensive, but they do offer payment plans.

Thank you both.

Selenea - it is so hard to let go of those susperstitious thoughts or whatever.  My period has started, not the "full on" bleeding yet but there is definitely the all-too recognizable brownish blood I have right before and right after my period.I also ate like two boxes of packaged brownies, heh. So I definitely know my period is coming and with the lack of any other symptoms but that one where my discharge had blood streaks in them I don't have anything pointing me in the direction of it not being gone. But I'm still not sure. I just can't help it.

auntijessi - I pretty much got my period and I am not feeling any other symptoms, just that one with the streaked discharge. It wasn't so much "still" as in suddenly it happened and then it didn't anymore. When I had blood before, I was feeling the excruciating pain with peeing as well as some abdominal pain. I am not feeling any of that but I'm afraid I'm gonna jinx it or something.  And now it just feels like my normal period coming on.:(  If I am not feeling any other symptoms, is it likely it was just from my period? This is just killing me now, I'm not gonna be able to sleep and I can't use up all my Xanax for this. :(

I am definitely going to make an apoointment for after the 18th, but I'm just not sure when to now. I'm so scared now I'm gonna make the appointment and then be stuck in all this pain waiting for the stupid appointment if what that was is indeed a symptom. Its like the anticipation is worse; I'm not even feeling any pain right now but freaking myself out into a panick attack over the notion that it's a symptom. And I can't afford all this either, especially since I broke out in hives from the Doxy (which I'm still dealing with) and don't want to go through that again. Nor can I afford dealing with it. :(

Testing on the 18th will be too soon to know if you have been re-infected, or if its still dead dna from the prior infection.

I would keep the appt though, especially if you are still having symptoms.

It sounds like your discharge is normal.  Sounds like your period is coming.

I doubt dead chlamydia can be seen with the naked eye.

I understand your superstitions.  I have a husband who is superstitious and I am somewhat that way.

One way of getting over such superstitions is verbalizing them to someone who listens and not judges and allow yourself to say it out loud that it is just your period coming and that your chlamydia discharge is over with cause your chlamydia is cleared up.

Just get retested like auntiejessi said after one month of stopping the meds.

Hugs

Thanks much. That certainly puts my mind at ease. I know I made sure the condom was on; I felt it and he had penetrated me for a short time only. As an aside, I think the way I got this was from the other guy over a month ago who I suspect removed the condom. I did not know he had chlamydia, and in fact cannot say for certain, but I'm quite sure that is who it was.

Anyway I took the pills for the first time on Friday, May 30th. It was a 10-day course which ended Sunday, June 8th and my appointment is the 18th. I will keep this appointment but if necessary I will make yet another one. In fact I think I will, but I'd still like to know if this time frame is acceptable.

I should also note that yesterday morning, I had discharge that alarmed me. Now it was only once but was streaked with blood. Can't say whether the color was "off" since I'm about to get my period (right before then my discharge can be darker, etc.) but it was not "runny" or "sour" like it was before. It had blood streaks (not "dripping" blood) which all kind of reminded me of what I hock up just after I've recovered from sinus issues. Could this be dead bacteria/organisms? Is it common for dead organisms/bacteria come out after the course of antibiotics are gone? Or is this my period, or both? I haven't had it since (don't want to jinx it!) but I really want peace of mind.

I have OCD, depression, and anxiety so this is taking it's toll although I am surprisingly calm. I just want this over but don't want to be optimistic or dismissive of the signs because I'm scared of jinxing it or something completely irrational, as if I have that kind of power. :(

Oh the bacteria for chlamydia lives INSIDE, not outside on the skin.

If the 18th is a month or so from treatment, your test should be fine.  Its tricky - if you test too soon, the test might pick up on dead dna from chlamydia, giving you a false positive.  On the other hand, the meds you took might mask bacteria, therefore giving you a false negative.

That's why its recommended you wait at least a month.

Thank you again. Just not exactly sure if the organisms/bacteria live on the penis/vulva or within the fluids. Knowing would really give me peace of mind. I just want this OVER.

Inaccurate as in a false-negative, or a false-positive? The clinic suggested the appointment for the 18th so I'm keeping that. However my pap appointment is coming up in a month or two I believe. I'm gonna talk to the nurse practicioner though.

If he used a condom, then it doesn't matter if he ejaculated or not.

Since condoms were used both times, it makes it unlikely that he would be infected, and therefore you wouldn't be re-infected.  Since you are concerned, then maybe test again in a month to make sure its gone.  If you do it sooner, your test might not be accurate.

Okay thanks. But specifically - does ejaculation make the chances more or less likely? I mean as far as transferring it back to me supposing he had it? Again, with a condom.

As for him getting tested, I can't force him to do anything. But I can not sleep with him again.

As far as the penetration, well, indeed I said no. Even as far into the antibiotics I was and that he had no symptoms, of course no,. Unfortunately it was one of those dumb "moment" things that we allowed to happen eventually. Not a "he did it anyway" thing though I understand the concern (and thank you). It was brief, no ejaculation, not even much thrusting. There was a condom and in fact I panicked so much that I got up and ran to the bathroom, peed, and washed the area.

The chances are really low for either scenario, but it might be a good idea if he gets tested.  If he's negative, you have nothing to worry about.

I am concerned that you said no, and ended up being penetrated anyway.  Obviously, I wasn't there, and don't know if you wanted this, but if you said no, and he did it anyway, that's an issue all by itself.
