My boyfriend's itch

Ok, here goes.... My boyfriend and I have been together for three years. He has this habit of itching himself, adjusting himself, moving it around, ect. He is 19 and involved in a lot of sports and we both go to the gym five days a week. His penis is much larger than average. I made him go to the doctor, he was tested for everything and it all comes back negative. He plays basketball and I watched his game the other night and I counted and he grabbed, itched, and adjusted 112 times during the game!

What is up with this? It is emabarrasing! It isn't only while he is playing sports, this is a constant thing, almost a habit! Others notice it too. My mom even asked me why he is constantly touching himself. He says that he doesn't know why he does it. He says that it is a "normal guy thing" and yes, I have noticed that a lot of guys do it but not nearly to the extent that my boyfriend does.

He says that he is afraid of sitting on his balls and when it happens it hurts really bad. I went to his doctor appt. with him and his doctor told me that when guys have bigger than average "stuff" it becomes a habit to protect it. My boyfriend says that he only likes it to go to the left and that is why he does this during sports, because it gets moved around.

Is this as "normal" as I am being told that it is or is there something else going on here? He does wear a jockstarp but that seems like it makes things worse! My sister says that he is just a pervert and likes to play with himself. What gives?????
Thanks.

Ummmm, I kind of thought that I did have a question about STD's.
I have read that false positives are very common and maybe I didn't word it right.
