Testing for STIs

Hi everyone,

I'm writing here for some advice on STI testing after a moment I heavily regret. I am increasingly anxious over it and would like relatively on-point help.

Last week I slept with a sex worker. I used protection but oral sex was given on both sides. There was only vaginal penetration and no anal, but the condom was off for oral. She was also, as far as I know, not wearing any protection.

I am very paranoid and anxious that I may have contracted any range of STIs from chlamidia, gonnorhea, siphilis, herpes to HIV. I have had only 2 previous sexual partners and practiced safe sex with both.

Could someone please tell me, if they know:

- How long do I wait before getting an STI test? (I want to make sure the time is right so I have the bet chance of screening for all possible STIs; perhaps not HIV as I know this comes later)

- How long should I wait for a HIV test, one that relatively well can tell whether I've been infected or not?

- What are my chances of having contracted HIV? (I know this is impossible to tell, but from oral and having protection on for intercourse, does anyone have any stats?)

- At what point should I get tested again to make sure of all clear, or is this necessary and if I have an infection and it is cleared, when can I have sex again?

Your help in this is really appreciated. Totally freaking out with anxiety, so much so that I fear I'll develop phantom symptoms even if not infected.

PS The sex worker was part of a city establishment and not freelance, if this has any impact.

Thanks.

Hi Vance,

Thanks so much for your answer. I see someone has said you have a good bit of experience on here so I wanted to follow up.

Based on my info above, what do you think is a risk of STI? Any particular ones. She gave me oral for about 3-4 mins and I to her for about 30 sec-1 min, as far as I can remember. Apart from that condom on at all times. I'm very anxious and always watching out for symptoms as the days go by. I think I have a swollen uvula now too and do not know if this is related, although I had it before (3 months ago) and am afraid it's connected.

Any advice you have much appreciated.
