Ulcer on Penis. Very concerned please help

I am a sexually active 22 year old male currently abroad in Spain. I had a small pimple on the lower end of my penis shaft that, after being popped several times, has led to a 1/4 inch long ulcer. I had gotten the pimple checked and it tested negative for herpes but then the ulcer formed. It is very painful, and has both blood and pus coming out of it.

My doctor told me to apply antiobiotic cream and keep it dry but I would like a second opinion. He is back in the United States so he can not see it. Im very concerned, especially since I am abroad for the next 6 months. Should I go to a doctor here and get it tested for syphillis or something like that? Should I wait for a few weeks to see what happens? Im very worried. Please help!

if you have hsv1 orally already, odds are you didn't contract it genitally.

type specific herpes testing does tell the difference between hsv1 and hsv2 so that if you did contract hsv2 genitally, it will pick up on that if you wait the appropriate length of time.

Grace,

I already have the herpes virus in my throat. Would the herpes igg blood test then automatically show that I had it or would there be a way to differentiate between this new occurence and the one in my throat? If not, would it then be best to get another swab test?

Also, there is only a single ulcer on my penis which my doctor said is rare for herpes. Could this just be chafing post pimple, or do you still think it is likely an std like herpes or syphilis?

Thanks you very much for the help.

it's most helpful when you just keep adding to your original post instead of making new ones. thank you for your future cooperation with this - it's something we ask in our read before posting post on the forum.

Lesion cultures are notoriously falsely negative.  You'll need to follow up on this with a herpes igg blood test at some point to know your full status better.  You need to wait at least 3 months after the last time you had sex with anyone.

The best thing to do is to follow up on this again on monday if it's not getting better. I know it's difficult to get medical help when out of the country but since you'll be there for the next 6 months, knowing how to get medical care is good to know.
