Syphilis Chancre

On October 29 I had unprotected sex with a girl I didnt know well, then in December 13 or 14th (6 weeks after encounter) I woke up and noticed a bump on my scrotum on the left side, it looked like a fairly big pimple covered with skin and white content in it, or maybe the skin was white, in any case, I Tried to pop it, but it didnt pop easily so I didnt insist.
There was one hair that was coming out of it on the side. I applied neosporin to the pimple, although the it never opened or popped. it's been 2 weeks and half the "pimple" has been reduced to maybe 1/3 it's original size, it never opened to look like a wound basically the skin never broke, now I am not sure if it never broke because I applied neosporin to it for 3 consecutive days or whatever it is, it's getting me scared that it is a Syphilis chancre. I didnt notice any considerable Lymph node enlargement in my groin or other places.

So my question is will a chancre be an open sore ? if it's pimple or bump, does it always open. how common is a chancre at the 6th week after exposure?

Thank you for all your help

Yes I shaved my "balls" (sorry) just 2 weeks prior to that I believe, and usually I dont shave my sac but I thought I would try for the first time. Actually I saw my urologist this morning and he said that it's rare for the chancre of syphilis to show up on the scrotum, he said most of the time  it appears on the penis itself mast likely at the tip.
In any case I took the hiv/syphilis test at 8 weeks and both are neg. to be honest I am afraid to take any other test, because u cant imagine the anxiety I lived thru the past few days.
Let's all hope that a cure for all these STDS are found in 2011. Let's all also stress the importance of protection (EVEN WITH ORAL SEX). I really think people downlpay the risks involved with oral sex. I am so freaked out by this I was thinking maybe they should have like a full body condom with a hole to breath with (lol).
Thanks everyone for your help. I will definately stick around this forum at least i can help others deal with this kind of anxiety, it's horrible.

This so called pimple sounds like an ingrown hair...do you shave?  I get them on the underside of my shaft sometimes.  If you can see a hair sticking out get a set of tweezers and yank it out.  The hair folical is holding in the infection.  Once you get the hair out it should go away in a couple days, like 3 or 4

syphilis is conclusive
HIV is a good indication, 3 months is conclusive. Any further HIV questions please post in the HIV forum.

Just went ahead yesterday and got tested for HIV and Syphilis both came back negative, after 8 weeks of brief unprotected encounter. I am a bit relieved, but have some lingering worries, this is insane. how reliable is a test for syphilis and hiv antibody at the 8th week mark.
Thanx

female condoms are helpful if keeping an erection if a male condom is an issue for you. you don't need to be fully erect to use the female condom :)

we all do things that the next day we wonder what in the world we were thinking :)   How do you think I came to have herpes? he he he     Just wanted to make sure that you weren't your own worse enemy with your fears :D

Very good question, I actually had condoms and even started with a condom on, but then I had problems holding an erection with the condom then in the heat of the moment i briefly took it out and had intercourse for less than 3 minutes, it was just sloppy and a poor decision on my part, which I regret dearly.

My sexual encounter was in a third world country that's what's getting me the most scared, I am a guy that tends to closely watch any symptoms up to 3 months after an unusual sexual encounter. In any case I will try to schedule for testing this week. It's just consuming 90% of m thoughts this is insane.

this doesn't sound at all like it's syphilis.

definitely follow up with proper std testing at the appropriate times if you are concerned.

I have the same situation. The facts I keep telling myself are these:
1)  Most syphilis chancres are not on the scrotum
2)  Only 1 in 20,000 people in the U.S. have syphilis
3)  Most exposures to syphilis do not result in infection

Now.  What do you think the chances are of having a chancre vs. having a pimple or ingrown hair?  That's what I keep asking myself.  I know that I can't have syphilis.  If I went to a doctor, s/he would most likely laugh at me, shrug, and then do the test because I am going to insist on it.

At any rate, you can just go get a syphilis blood test.  You've waited long enough.  You get the negative results, and all of that worry will be over.
