Reactive RPR for Syphilis

I am a gay male who has been seeing someone for the last month.  Last Saturday,  the guy I started seeing went with me to get tested for stds.  We just got our results back and I tested negative for everything, but he got a reactive for syphilis from the RPR test.  We’ve only have had anal sex with a condom and I was the receptive partner each time.  Also,  I have performed oral sex on him without a condom.  He says he does not have any symptoms.  He’s on PReP and gets tested for HIV regularly and his test from last week was negative.  The only risky thing we’ve done is he penetrated me for less than two seconds without a condom before he took his penis out and put on a condom.

He has been instructed that he may have syphilis and has to return to the clinic.  Since I tested negative and have no symptoms should I be treated for syphillis as well or get retested.  The last time we had sex was on Saturday after we took the std tests.

Hi when a person tests positive for syphilis a second more sensitive test is performed to confirm it as there maybe picking up antibodies from a prior infection or even a false positive so have him take the second test before being concerned.
