Severe STD concerns

Hi, thanks for this forum. I’ve read so much (reassuring) posts about similar cases that I barely dare posting this. For the first time ever I was in a situation I deeply regret. 8 days ago I received oral sex from a "lap dancer". If I wasn't a hypochondriac I'd just leave this behind me as one of life's episodes. But now the trouble starts.

Let me first say that I've already consulted excellent doctors and specialists at home already - until today (8 days after the incident) no one except me is worried about anything.

My hugest fear - about HIV - is driving me mad though and will not vanish until I'll finally take the PCR test on day 14. I've talked to doctors, helplines, read forums - mostly everyone tells me there was NO risk, not even a little one (though some won't say "zero"). I still think my chances are high, like 80%.

Second fears: Other STDs. I went to the urologist 4 days after the incident. He sampled some urine and ejaculate. The urine test was fine (strangely, they didn't do extensive tests for STDs on that sample). The results for the ejaculate are only halfway through, i.e. Chlamydia is neg. I'm still waiting for the other results, but I'm not sure what is being tested.

Since the day I went to the urologist, I am experiencing light tingling/burning near my urethra/scrotum. The doctor said it was all due to my anxiety. I have no typical symptoms of an infection. No discharge, no visual abnormalities. However I feel that there is something, which I even feel at night and wake up because of it. During the day (when I'm mostly sitting) it gets a bit worse; at night it's getting just a little better.

Here are my questions:

1 - Is it correct I've had a zero-risk HIV exposure, EVEN IF I got another STD from her?

2 - Is the ejaculate sample really a sufficient test for STDs? What about my sensations?

3 - If I had a classical STD, would I experience more severe symptoms that "strange sensations"?

Thank you so much.

Three months of anxiety are finally over. I know you're all saying I didn't have a risk in the first place. But you weren't there and I might not remember correctly. So aside from that, even if I had a risk, are my tests fully conclusive?

Day 12: Ab/Ag test: negative
Day 18: PCR for HIV 1 and 2: both negative
Day 25: Ab/Ag test: negative
Day 35: Ab/Ag test: negative
Day 42: Ab/Ag test: negative
Day 60: Ab/Ag test: negative
Day 74: Ab/Ag test: negative
Day 74: Ab/Ag test: negative
Day 88: Ab/Ag test: negative

Hi,sorry, freaking out again. Is the PCR reliable? What if there was something more going on than the BJ that I forgot about? Could I still rely on this PCR 18 days after encouter?

We can't provide therapy, we can only tell you what you were at risk for. Your not going to make medical history.

Dear Grace, please get back to me. My lymph nodes are a bit aching, I don't know. Today I was panicking a lot. What if I'm one of the few who were infected by a BJ? Called a helpline. Said no risk. I can't believe it. I am so, so worried.

Hi again,

I've tried to get things out of my mind the last couple of days, but fear is taking control of me again. Please get back to me with some thoughts.

I am still thinking "I might be the first/one the very few(?) who got HIV by receiving a BJ". I mean, maybe there are some few cases happing all the time, that you just may not know about? Maybe there are cases that are not being recorded, as it's anonymous and so on... :(

I have been to my doctor on day 12 after my "exposure" (i.e. 2 days ago). I wanted a PCR, but she foud it too early and made some other test which was fine (negative). She told me she worked in a clinic for surgery and that she's seen many cases of HIV and HIV fears. She says: I just don't have it. I would have had symptoms already and the blood test would have shown some "special early antibodies" nearly for sure already. Is that true? I mean after googling so much I cannot find any test that would be reliable on day 12 except the PCR. I'll do the PCR tomorrow or Monday... Still so, so much worried that I might've missed something about the incident or that just I will be the one rare exception.

And my lymph nodes feel somehow strange. Sometimes I am a bit dizzy too... I know, I know. Anyways.

:(

10 days post encounter is early for a hpv infection to show up.  reread what I posted again.

it's unrealistic to worry about contracting hiv from oral sex.

Dear grace, thank you so much. I try my best to follow your suggestinons. However, I am not able to follow them all...

I am so worried that the SW transmitted the HPV stuff to me, and that she had herpes in her mouth? Doesn't that increase the chances of HIV severly?? I thought I had a little calmed down, but this new thought is making me crazy again.

whether or not you are a hygienic person has nothing to do with hpv risk!!   hpv is a virus that is easily transmitted to others. you can get non-genital warts from just shaking hands with others - being naked and doing the wild thing also easily transmits the hpv virus.   did they give you a prescription for aldara cream to use on the warts?   also whether you get hpv or not has little to do with your immune system. no reason to think you have  a weakened immune system!!!   you don't have to think that you have hiv because warts are starting to show up!!   you can contract hpv from oral sex but if these really are warts, odds you contracted them from a prior partner. showing up 10 days post encounter is a little early for warts. if you need peace of mind, see a dermatologist and have one biopsied to see if it's really a wart or not. I'm always a little suspicious when providers see "little warts".

so why pain even though all your testing is coming back negative? well sometimes it's a viral infection that just has to run its course. sometimes it's as simple as checking the lil guy out repeatedly and the position you are in sitting obsessing over the computer. Turn off your computer, keep busy, drink plenty of fluids and stop worrying so much!!!

Hi again,

everything is weird and frightening. First of all: yes, I have an appointment for a new therapy concerning my anxieties soon. However, I still need someone's help here.

I saw the urologist today. They found _nothing_ in the urine and ejaculate samples. Even though this is good news, it's just weird, because I really had pain in my urethra the past few days, which were _definitley_ not anxiety-related. They have begun to get better, but still this is strange. It's not that I "don't trust results" - usually they comfort me, but this time I just think they missed something.

Which leads me to Q1: Even though my discomforts are not visible and no germs were detected, maybe there's still something and he should have prescribed me antibiotes? And Q2: Should I now, after another week, have ANOTHER urine sample?

Then the doc diagnosed very small genital warts (sounds so disgusting - I'm such a clean person...) on my penile root which he prescribed me something against. He said this usually is the usualy herpes virus which almost everyone has, and that it's triggered by a weak immune system. Now what the he__ is this? Will they grow to monster warts? What the...?

A weak immune system? Could this be related to by "contact" 10 days ago?? My head is saying: "This is an HIV sign". My doc says the virus has nothing to do with my encounter with the SW.

What's going on "down there"? And will the PCR-Test I'd like to take on Thursday make any sense to calm me?

Still in deep concern.

Urine test is fine.

No testing is going to help you overcome this, get to a therapist ASAP to begin the help.

They only sampled urine and an ejaculate. No swab. As you can imagine, I'm worried this is not a sufficient test...

if they did an urethral swab, that can cause these symptoms.

drink plenty of fluids and keep busy until monday!!!
