Hallucinations at night

I have had countless hallucinations in the middle of the night.  I go to sleep and then wake up in the middle of the night like normal.  Then I see things while I am fully awake and conscous.  I talk to people that aren't there and I even try to perform tasks that have to do with my hallucination.  They usually are involved with something that is on my mind or something that I have been doing during the day.  The weird part is I will catch myself doing this and scold myself for believing in what I saw, and then go back to bed, only to be coaxed into the hallucinations again.  Some of them involve my coach telling me what to do in practice for a drill or during the competition.  Last night I even kept telling the person that I saw that he was not real and he was argueing back saying he was.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello and hope you are doing well.

Your symptoms could be due to Hypnagogic hallucinations, which is the symptom of a sleep disorder called Narcolepsy. This sleep disorder is characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep paralysis, cataplexy where the person has episodes of loss of muscle function while awake, hypnagogic hallucinations and automatic behavior. You will need to consult your primary care physician, who may schedule you for a polysomnogram (sleep test) to rule out sleep disorders and initiate appropriate therapy.

Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
