Why cant I sleep?

Every night when I go to bed I cant sleep for a very long time (My mum said that i've had this sleep problem since i was born ,im 14 years old now), for instance if I went to bed at 9pm I would end up sleeping at 1am-2am and I usually wake up multiple times during the night as well... its so annoying because I feel tired a lot of the time and I can't concentrate when i go to college...I have tried so many things like lavender drops on my pillow, warm milk ,reading before going to bed, exercising before going to bed, listening to music and some other stuff, I have no idea what else to do ...please help me :(

Good advice give to increase your daily exercise.  This helps improve sleep.  What about going to bed earlier?  I know that's hard at 14, I have a 14 year old son also.  Are you anxious?  Do you have to go to the bathroom?  What is waking you up at night?  There may be some simple remedies such as decreasing liquids starting at 7 pm so that you don't have to go during the night (being sure to do extra hydration earlier in the day).

Now, you can't do much about this but talk to your mom.  Perhaps she can talk to your doctor.  There are things like melatonin which is a natural herb that helps people sleep that kids can take.  Safe.  But that is something to talk to your mom about.  Get a good night time routine as well and NO electronics at all at least an hour before bedtime. There are theories about blue light causing us to be too alert.

I know it is hard at your age.  You probably have a lot to do.  My middle schoolers are doing home work, playing sports or activities in the evenings and are just generally busy.  Sleep is always an issue at our house.  They have to get up at the crack of dawn for school too (no later than 6 am).  It's hard to get the required amount of sleep with that. We try to keep the same bedtimes (around) on the weekends and encourage sleeping in when they can to get a bit extra when possible.

Anyway, get your parents involved and see if they can also help with this situation.  Let us know!

I have tried exercising during the day and i still cant sleep...I usually go to bed at 8:30 during the week. I sometimes get up to go to the toilet...and im not sure what wakes me up...i dont know why i cant sleep because i feel tired but still dont fall asleep :/ i dont use my phone or anything before bed and i dont have a TV in my room either...
The warm milk in bed is not helpful to sleep so you should stop that. Also it will likely make you go to the bathroom in the night.
Reading before bed is fine but don't do it in bed. Your bed is a place for sleep but nothing else according to the sleep clinic I went to.
Avoid taking your cell phone to your bedroom unless you put it under your pillow for the night and just use it for an alarm.

Hi, first suggestion would be to move your exercise earlier in the day.  Sometimes the later exercise can be disruptive.  However, exercise is important every day you are right.

Also try to get a very consistent sleep schedule and only allow the minimum time in bed that you need for proper sleep.  At age 14 this could be in the range of 8 to 10 hours, but that will drop as you get older.

Do not allow yourself to sleep in, instead have a very consistent wake time every day.  Also avoid or minimize any napping, as that will steal sleep from the following night.

Then let go the worry, which only feeds the problem.  If this continues to bother you, then see a doctor for a checkup.

A sleep clinic and a book they recommended told me last month that a nap of 1 hour is permitted as long as it is over by 3PM.
