At the risk of sounding like a wise-guy, couldn't the money you were using for the ciggies be used for patches instead?
There is an alternative and you CAN do it....its Cold Turkey.
A website called whyquit.com is the best resource I've found for qutting cold turkey. The site has complete directions, education, and support for anyone wishing to be free of this hideous addiction.
Best wishes and hope to see you posting soon that you've quit.

Nicotine Free: 3M 2w 1d 23h
Not Smoked: 3,130
Money Saved: $516.45
Yeah that's a typical response I hear :-). We just didn't have the large amount of money until we got paid and we wanted to quit before then.
Jules, in NYC where there given for free. If you have a "311" in your state then perhaps they offer the same. If not, try googling "free nicotine patch" and you might come up with something in your neighborhood.
Good luck! You can do it : )

If you can afford Chanix...it really works. Ask your dr about it they sometimes have a 10.00 off coupon. I know it's a lot but it works 32 years and I'm smoke free so far... it's always a challenge!! T tapered down from a pack a day to 7 uintil I could get the RX filled. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!! Hang in there it's hard but you'll feel so much better if you can change the thinking habit of wanting one. THAT is the hard part. But if you really want to( and you know you should!) stick with us ...we'll help you.
They couldn't afford chantix either unless they have a good health plan. I only pay a few bucks for a months worth and I'm very lucky. Some news came out that it may be linced to some suicides or attemps but it's sparce and no real evidence yet. For me it's worth it for a while to be on it as it's the only thing that seesms to work for me. all the best
Check with your local halth dept. some have programs for people to get them through their dr/pharmacy for free!! They worked the first time for me until I thought I was good after week 1 and stopped them 2 day later I smoked and was hooked right back in even tho the first cig tasted horrible I still kept on a going with them. Stick to them and when you get the craving for a cig while taking the patches keep telling yourself (out loud if you have to) NO I don't need them the addiction is to the nicotine which is coming into me through a different vehicle. I cannot take the patch now because of the fact that I blew it that time they now give me the shakes really really badly so I am trying this book. It's $15 and if it works well worth it. the easy way to stop smoking by allen carr. He says smoke while you read by the end you won't want to?? I only made it 1/3 of the way through but hey if it works I'll be thrilled.
