I Quit!

Today is Thursday. I had my last cigarette on Tuesday. I am using Chantix. I have been having headaches. Almost a cluster type. Severe pain but short lived in addition to a dull ache that goes down into my neck. I am hoping it is a symtom of withdraw from nicotine and not the Chantix. Has anyone else had these type of headaches?

Yea please keep it that way.  I think headaches are part of the withdrawal anyways because I am getting them myself and right now i just woke up feeling sick, nauseous, and I have a really bad headache.  Worse of all my lungs are burning still and I can't breathe very well.

My suggestion to you is try stopping the chantix and see how you feel.  Then you could resume taking it if you feel the withdrawals and cravings come back really strong?  Might want to ask a Doctor on that one just to be sure.

As far as I know the headaches are part of the withdrawal and I have a bad one right now.

Thanks for the comments. Today is Friday. I decided to not take the evening Chantix last night to see if that helped the headache. I didn't have one last night but woke up with one. I took my morning pill and so far have been fine. Still no smoking. I really don't want one. I'll be glad to get over the hump with the physical effects, ie, headache, moodiness, etc.

Hi just wanted to say I too had my last smoke this past Tuesday so I might be able to relate to some symptoms... No chantix for me though just went cold turkey.

For me I had been having bad chest pains almost burning like in my lungs... They got slightly less intense today and come and go now rather than almost steady like yesterday.

I did have a dull ache in my throat also... And last night I was awoken by a pain in my larynx that lasted like 15 seconds and went away.

Funny thing I got really sick and I think I have been in a steady state of withdrawal but hadn't really had a craving until about 10 minutes ago... Just when I started reading your post... Now the craving is gone.  It just kinda came and now it's gone.  Back to chest pain mode.

I used Chantix for my quit but had no ill side effects. Hindsight, I probably wouldn't use it again because of all the negativity so what I would suggest is if you have already gone 2 days without a smoke, you might want to consider stopping the Chantix.
You are still going to have a physical withdrawal regardless of how long you use the pill though I don't know to what degree, all I can say is that I had a rough go of it.
What helped me tremendously was support from this site and the people on it and whyquit.com. Read the articles there and try to relate to all of them. If you find yourself in them and understand your addiction, the better your chances of quitting will be.
Good luck and we are here to support you : )

Chantix can have a lot of side effects, including headaches. They may go away after some use of it for a while. And congratulations on quitting smoking, that is one of the hardest things to do in my oppinion. Chantix originally worked for me. Best of luck!

Hi and congratulations on your quit!  I didn't use Chantix, but another member here who will be along, did use it so might be able to give better advice.  I've read many testimonies of people who did have side effects and I would have to say it's *probably* the Chantix but a little early to know for sure since everyone's quit symptoms are different and this could just be Your quit symptom.  A headache is not uncommon when quitting smoking.

What you can do while you're waiting for more responses is use the "Search this Community" up on the right and enter Chantix which will bring up previous posts on this subject.

Good luck to you!
