This is hard

I gave up Cigs Tuesday night at 8:00pm and haven't had one since.  Im using the commit lozenges but its still hard.

Does anyone feel like they are being punished?  Its awful but that is how I feel.  But due to health problems I HAVE to quit.

If anyone needs a buddy to get thru this, I sure can use one.  Just let me know.

you go girl! When the going gets tough!
Depending on what part of the world you are in, you are probably closing in on the end of your 3rd day. The nicotine withdrawal is officially over, congrats to you! Now more than ever, reading the articles at whyquit.com will help you with the mental/emotional aspect of your quit now so make sure to take advantage. There are times that I still read them, especially this one:

"My Cigarette, My Friend?"
      by Joel Spitzer

How do you feel about a friend who has to go everywhere with you? Not only does he tag along all the time, but since he is so offensive and vulgar, you become unwelcome when with him. He has a peculiar odor that sticks to you wherever you go. Others think both of you stink.

He controls you totally. When he says jump, you jump. Sometimes in the middle of a blizzard or storm, he wants you to come to the store and pick him up. You would give your spouse hell if he or she did that to you all the time, but you can't argue with your friend. Sometimes, when you are out at a movie or play he says he wants you to go stand in the lobby with him and miss important scenes. Since he calls all the shots in your life, you go. Your friend doesn't like your choice of clothing either. Instead of politely telling you that you have lousy taste, he burns little holes in these items so you will want to throw them out. Sometimes, he tires of the furniture and gets rid of it too. Occasionally, he gets really nasty and decides the whole house must go.

He gets pretty expensive to support. Not only is his knack of property destruction costly, but you must pay to keep him with you. In fact, he will cost you thousands of dollars over your lifetime. And you can count on one thing, he will never pay you a penny in return.

Often at picnics you watch others playing vigorous activities and having lots of fun doing them. But your friend won't let you. He doesn't believe in physical activity. In his opinion, you are too old to have that kind of fun. So he kind of sits on your chest and makes it difficult for you to breathe. Now you don't want to go off and play with other people when you can't breathe, do you?

Your friend does not believe in being healthy. He is really repulsed by the thought of you living a long and productive life. So every chance he gets he makes you sick. He helps you catch colds and flu. Not just by running out in the middle of the lousy weather to pick him up at the store. He is more creative than that. He carries thousands of poisons with him which he constantly blows in your face. When you inhale some of them, they wipe out cilia in your lungs which would have helped you prevent these diseases.

But colds and flu are just his form of child's play. He especially likes diseases that slowly cripple you—like emphysema. He considers this disease great. Once he gets you to have this, you will give up all your other friends, family, career goals, activities—everything. You will just sit home and caress him, telling him what a great friend he is while you desperately gasp for air.

But eventually your friend tires of you. He decides he no longer wishes to have your company. Instead of letting you go your separate ways, he decides to kill you. He has a wonderful arsenal of weapons behind him. In fact, he has been plotting your death since the day you met him. He picked all the top killers in society and did everything in his power to ensure you would get one of them. He overworked your heart and lungs. He clogged up the arteries to your heart, brain, and every other part of your body. In case you were too strong to succumb to this, he constantly exposed you to cancer causing agents. He knew he would get you sooner or later.

Well, this is the story of your "friend," your cigarette. No real friend would do all this to you. Cigarettes are the worst possible enemies you ever had. They are expensive, addictive, socially unacceptable, and deadly. Consider all this and NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!

You are nearly there so just keep up your determination, you can do it!
After the 72 hours comes the emotional addiction. Long ago I found an appropriate article at whyquit and I'm going to post it here for you:

The Smoker's Vow

With this puff I enslave myself
to a lifetime of addiction.
While I can’t promise to always love you,
I do promise to obey every craving and
support my addiction to you
no matter how expensive you become.

I will let no husband or wife,
no family member or friend,
no doctor or any other health professional,
no employer or government policy,
no burns or no stench,
no cough or raspy voice,
no cancer or emphysema,
no heart attack or stroke,
no threat of loss of life or limbs,
come between us.

I will smoke you forever
from this day forth,
for better or worse,
whether richer or poorer,
in sickness and in health,
till death do us part!

“You may now light the cigarette.”

“I now pronounce you a full-fledged smoker.”
Postscript: While 1 in 2 marriages end in divorce, the addiction to smoking will last a lifetime—albeit a shorter lifetime.  Once a smoker, annulment of the addiction is impossible.  One puff can result in a permanent relapse.  Don’t take the chance of relapsing to this marriage of inconvenience.

NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!

The patch is probably the best of all the OTC choices. I know many who quit using them. In NY you can get them for free. It's to bad that other states don't offer the same.

The first 3 days are the toughest. It takes about 72 hours for the withdrawals. You are almost through it, so hang tough : )

Good luck!

I know that ALL the over the counter stop smoking methods contain Nicotine.  This is the way I have to come off of them.  Ive tried cold turkey before and NEVER made it this long. If I was doing cold turkey I wouldn't be online right now, Id be outside smoking.

I'm not liking the lozenge........I will be buying the Patch tomorrow, so I will not have been on them very long.

I used the lozenges prior to this quit. What made me stop using them was a visit to my dentist. He couldn't believe how messed up the inside of my mouth had become ffrom the short term use and told me to stop immediately. I know the roof of my mouth felt shredded, almost like it gets when eating something that burns the roof of ones mouth, and my tongue felt numb. I did stop right away, went to the doctor and got a prescription for Chantix. It was expensive, but I have never looked back. That was almost 2 years ago. Now, there is quite a bit of negatives said about Chantix, some that is included in the warning, but a lot of what is said can be "quit related" or just not related...that's my opinion. It worked for me, a smoker for almost 40 years.
The best way to quit is the cold turkey method and a great site for support, regardless of your method for quitting is whyquit.com
Quitting will be harder if you don't want to, rather are forced to, but you can do it if you realize that your life will be so much better without them. The articles at whyquit.com, under the "education" column are very helpful. I read them whenever I got a craving and by the time I finished, the urge had passed.
You can also post to this board anytime......there are many supporters here and we have all been in your shoes.
Hang in there and if you continue with the Commit method, I urge you to do a little google research on the ingredients.....one in particular "Nicotine Polacrilex" which is actually nicotine : (
