13 yr old sister mentally unstable?

Hi there :)
My little sister is 13, and I remember when I was that age and life just seemed very confusing. But she is acting very... different. She has the typical mood swings, and sees a counselor (at her request) but lately her imagination gets out of control.

She has told her counselor that our mother is really mean to her and calls her names (which is not true. all my mother wants is her children to be happy) and anything my mom says to her is taken negatively. Last night though, she accidentally stepped on my mothers foot. my mom told her that it was fine, that everyone makes mistakes, but my little sister ran up to my room and started to cry (softly) and hyperventilate.

Then when my dad called her name to come downstairs (for no other reason than to ask where she put his bag) she starts SCREAMING, and rocking back and forth and excessive crying. I tried to calm her down, but it was no use. I was terrified. She eventually calmed down to the point of soft moaning and walking around the house in a slow, haunted manor, but it was still very odd. The next day she was much better, but... is this normal?

Finding her screaming like that made me have nightmares myself. I just want to ask doctors, parents, or older siblings if they've ever experienced anything like this. Any advice?

I'm really really sorry to have taken up your time with this long post... I'm just worried about my sister. Any opinions and advice is welcome. Thank you.

If she is desperate for attention, it's possible that she could be making it all up, but I would hate to jump to that conclusion since we really don't know. Because she is a minor, if something were really wrong, they would have to tell your parents if something really bad was going on. I would ask that your parents or yourself make a doctor's appointment for her to have her get checked, both for general physical health by her doctor and also by a psychologist for mental health to see what may be going on.

She hasn't had a health check up in a while, and her counselor won't tell me or my parents anything because of that whole "doctor/patient trust" thing. But I guess she can't be saying anything too bad because then the counselor would have to tell us what's happening... do you think it could all be for show? I mean... (in total sincerity) she's acting like those possessed people in horror movies (which she has never seen).

Thank you for your input!

There are a lot of possible reasons for her actions to be like this, but it may be a good idea to have her checked by a doctor to make sure her physical health is good. She might have a hormonal imbalance that can cause her moods and psych to go a little "haywire". Has her counselor said anything about her behavior?
