Adrenal Fatigue

I need the low down on this disfunction. Adrenal exhaustion. I have been told by two certified professionals and one other member here that the possibilities of this being an issue for me is very possible. I just don't get the whole picture.

First - how can it be corrected? What should be taken to help boost those adrenals again? and how long does it take to heal? I need to understand the DHEA thing too. Is  this DHEA a supplement?

Dumb as it may - It's always is good to find out more and see if it may help to understand.

Thoughts ??

Stella,

You know I will more than likely be treated for adrenal insufficiency once I get my labs back. (still waiting...)

My endo believes in "subclinical adrenal insufficiency". That is not full blown Addison's and test results possible normal/low normal. My endo thinks my results will be normal, but will treat anyway. He says the test I had still misses 25% of cases.

I had an ACTH/aldosterone Stimulation Test.

The treatment is a very low dose of hydrocortisone and possible fludrocortisone, depending on what the aldosterone results are.

He assured me that although they are steroids, they are physiological doses, much lower tha a dose used to treat inflammation, for example. he said I would become the Hulk or grow hair on my face!

My symptoms are lingering dysequalibrium/ dizziness and being very tired in the morning despite a full nights sleep and then "waking up" by late afternoon and having more energy until about midnight. These 2 are possible symptoms of low adrenal function, as well as many others.

Most doctors do not agree that there is any such thing as "subclinical" adrenal insufficiency. But we now know there is such a thing as "subclinical" thyroid disease, so it makes total sense. A disease doesn't just "happen" overnight!

I am going to request having my adrenal antibodies tested. My endo thinks I have Polyglandular Autoimmune Syndrome Type 2. I also have a history of Alopecia Areata.

Does any if this help? I hope so.
