Any Books

Does anyone know any good books on hyper, just to learn some more. There is so much that is not known about thyroid and it is overlooked. I went to the health center today and told the doctor I didn't want to see the endocrinologist b/c he over medicated me the first time i got diagnosed.

Roxanne,

Can you post these books as a reference in the health pages? Would you be willing to start a Health Page of "Book" - reference material? I can rattle off dozens of reading material for Hypothyroidism - but little Hyper references.

If you need some help - message me. We can work together on this. I'll take hypothyroidism and you take Hyper?

I agree that searching the internet is a great tool for finding out all kinds of things related to thyroid issues, whether it be autoimmune, nodules, or related to other conditions.  I also agree that you have to read, read, read and learn because those in the medical profession that we all trust with our lives, often don't have a clue regarding treatment for thyroid issues.  I don't think it's covered well in med school and most of them don't update their knowledge base once they become doctors, so a lot of what they will tell you is outdated.  Not even all endocrinologists are experienced with thyroid issues.  Fortunately, I have one who is.

I got my degree from the school of hard knocks. I went for the fast fix and took 131 RAI and I will have the rest of my life to regret. After taking that, it caused or made worse my Thyroid Eye Disease. I walked into this completely caught off gaurd and trusting those in the medical community who were treating me at that time. Only later after coming in here and asking Dr. Lupo some questions did I learn what a mistake I had truely made in my treatment.  Since that time I have decided to take complete control. I listen, I come home... I do my own research.... Take your time... There is NO FAST FIX.... So relax and learn how to help your self and the right questions to ask when the Doctor is in front of you. Read read Read ... and when you dont understand what it is you are reading.... Google it until you feel comfortable you understand what it is you are reading. Around this time last year I came inhere devastated .... My eyes , I was not able to even drive for two months.... scared, had lost over 40 pounds... I am on the road to recovery now, I have fired a few Doctors along the way. It is your health, take control of it. I changed everything, Diet being the most extreme... and Knowledge... Learn.... Clinical Studies for Hyperthyroidism... use that search engine and really surf the net.  I had nothing but time... I still find the time... I see so many people with Thyroid , it is almost like a silent epidemic that no one is willing to talk much about. WE can put a man on the moon, surely we can find a cure for this.

Hello and a Happy New Year to ya! I know of several good books One is by Elaine A. Moore and Lisa Moore called Graves Disease a Practical Guide, and then there is Thyroid Eye Disease Understanding Graves Opthalmopathy, by Elaine A. Moore. I know it is named for the eyes, but it also gives great advice about thyroid disorders and other Auto Immune disorders. Anyone recently having been told they have a thyroid disorder SHOULD read these Books before making a major decision like surgery or RAI 131. You can order them online.  Then as you are reading both you can surf the net and dig even deeper. I wish you the best of luck. What ever you decide, do not be rushed into a fast fix. I have Graves Disease, I can assure you, there is no fast fix. Relax read and learn. Knowledge is so very powerful to understanding.
