Your symptoms, including the excess hair on your chin and upper lip could be caused by a couple of different things, but without blood test results, all I can do is guess and that's not in your best interest, as it may only cause more needless worry.

Please come back and let me know what you find out, after you've had your appointment.

Without knowing what your test results were, there really isn't much we can tell you.

Did you have tests done on your thyroid?  What symptoms do you have?

Although TSH is a pituitary hormone that is affected by many variables, when it is that high it is most likely that you do have a thyroid problem.  If you have hypo symptoms, that would further confirm hypothyroidism.

When you go back for a followup visit, I suggest that you request testing for the actual, biologically active thyroid hormones, free T3 and free T4 (not total T3 and total T4).  If the doctor resists, then insist that you want to know results from these two very important tests.  Don't take no for an answer, after all you are the customer.

Since Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is the most prevalent cause of hypothyroid problems we hear about so much, I also suggest that you request testing for the thyroid antibodies, TPO ab and Tg ab.  Frequently members who are hypo are low in Vitamin D and also the B vitamins, so ask for tests for those as well.

When you get results back, get a copy of the lab report (the doctor is required to provide a copy upon your request) and post results and reference ranges here so that members can help interpret results and advise further.  It is a good idea to always get copies of lab reports and note on there how you were feeling at the time and what meds you were taking.  These become very important for future reference.
