So glad to hear from you!!! I was kind of worried!?!?!?! LOL I hope your healing goes fast! How soon will you get your report back?? Relax, and keep eating that ice cream! :-)
RodeoQueen!!!!! I've been wondering how you are doing. I'm sorry that your surgery was so much more complicated - it sounds like it *really* needed to come out. Don't skimp on your pain meds and don't wait until it's unbearable to take your meds - they take a while to kick in. Put ice packs on the incision too (but don't get it wet). That will help relieve swelling & pain.
I'm so glad that you are okay and my fingers and toes are crossed that it was just an ugly thyroid mess and no cancer.
Huge, healing hugs!!!

Mine was not cancer. I hope that gives you hope. However, even if it were, I was told the stats for effective treatment and survival of this kind of cancer are on our side. I hope that also gives you hope. Also, I was told the stats are pretty good on surviviing and even thriving in life without a thyroid. From what I gather so far that seems to be the case, more than not. Let's hope it continues for all of us.
I did not talk to the pathologist directly about my situation. Perhaps others here can give you more feedback on what to directly ask.
BTW - Cornell, huh? Not too shabby.
Well, at least you havent lost your sense of humour!
Sounds like you did great with the surgery - I'm so glad!
Here are some of the things you should ask at your post op visit:
Ask for a copy of your pathology report. Start keeping a copy of all your reports, bloodwork included.
Ask for an explanation of the pathology report (go item by item with the surgeon).
Ask if you need medication (I'm going to guess you definitely will seeing as 90% of your thyroid was removed).
Ask if you need to be referred to anyone (an endocrinologist? ) or need further testing (an ultrasound? annual wbs?).
Ask what the next steps are (if any) and when they'll take place.
Remember to rest rest rest the next little while, and drink plenty of fluids. Also, try to sleep with your head elevated, as that will help with the swelling.
Take those pain meds (dont try to be brave) and sleep tight!
I have eaten a ton today more that I thought could!! HA HA. Got 6 Half gallons of ice cream to get down!! HA HA... I have lost not only my thyroid but my mind too!

So glad it went well for you. I had that whole intertwined thing going on too. My neck was sensitive to the touch for a long time, still kind of is, but I'm happy to report it does get better every day.
The most important thing now is to rest, rest, rest. To repeat my same old montra: I didn't do that enough and believe it contributed to more problems than should have been.
Congratulations on your success and take good care.
