What was the actual result and reference range for your AM blood cortisol?
Thank you for your response!! Sorry for the delay.
The endocrinologist wanted to re run my thyroid tests and also do a 24 hour urine collection to look at cortisol.
I got my labs back but haven't been to the doctors yet, Wednesday the 29th is my appointment.
Labs:
TSH . 46 range .45-4.5
FT3 3.3 range 2-4.8
FT4 1.6 range .8-1.7
Cortisol 78 range 4-50
So my cortisol is high... And I can feel that. But my AM blood cortisol was low...
I am so confused...
Sorry for the late response. Being male I have no similar experience to draw from: however, it sounds like what I have read about postpartum thyroiditis, as discussed in this link.
http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/postpartum-thyroiditis/basics/definition/con-20035474
As noted in the link it starts with a period of hyperthyroidism followed by reversion to hypothyroidism. Also, "For most women who develop postpartum thyroiditis, thyroid function returns to normal within 12 to 18 months of the start of symptoms. However, some women who experience postpartum thyroiditis develop permanent complications."
Looking at your test results, I don't see Free T4 and Free T3, which are the biologically active thyroid hormones. I would expect that any doctor that would test for Reverse T3 would have tested for the Frees also. If they were done please post results and reference ranges.
It will be very interesting to find out what the Endo has to say. If the suggestion is that it will probably go away in a few months, I would insist that something be done to help with your symptoms in the meantime. I am sure they will want to run tests before deciding on anything. So you should make sure they test for Free T4 and Free T3, Reverse T3, cortisol, Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin. When you have test results and feedback on what the Endo had to say, please update this thread and let us help interpret your status.
