How to get Bipolar DX removed from Hashi patient

Sorry to jump in w/a question but this is just now bugging me... DXd w/Hashi by the free state mental health svcs (my paid insurance missed it when  I had a good job w/insurance, they just did a partial thyroidectomy and called it good).

Have been off bipolar meds (lamictal) for three years, but just got back on klonipin for anxiety, sleep, etc.

All of the symptoms of Hashi's seem to be what my "bipolar NOS" was - I have only had 2 major manic episodes, during one I had major weight loss (40 pounds in three months) and psychosis. Multiple suicide attempts, history of depression etc... As I've grasped the true impact of Hashi's on my overall well being and am getting a handle on it, I'm wondering if I was never bipolar at all - and if that is the case, do you know of a way to get that DX REMOVED from ones records???

I am uninsured, but am willing to do what I can to get that label removed if it is possible.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Most of the symptoms have abated, except the recurrent depression. I saw the Endo five years ago, have been on Levoxy and am just seeing a local doctor for routine bloodwork to check levels and adjust meds - can't afford much else. I was given the antidepressants and mood stabilizers after seeing a psychiatrist since the first medical doctors said there was nothing wrong with me to warrant the mood issues. Off of those now, have been for three years.

What I want to know is if it is possible to have the BP DX removed from my records, and who I have to see - does one have to visit another psychiatrist to "verify", can another form of doctor change it?

I live in a remote area with no local Endo - I either have to drive 2.5 hours or wait in line for hours when the guy comes out here once a month and pay out of pocket, not able to do that right now (plus find a babysitter). Last time all he told me was my tests verified Hashimoto's and here was my prescription, he'd do more tests in a year. Can't see paying out of pocket for so little information or treatement.

Depression, anxiety, mood swings, Insomnia, What we call Brain Fog, (Confusion) are all symptoms of thyroid disease, everyone here has experienced these symptoms, and the first thing the MD's hand you is a prescription for anti-depressants, there is also a multitude of physical symptoms that go with the package, chances are if you find a good Endocrinologist to treat your thyroid, many of these symptoms will abate without the un needed meds, we are not MD's here, but have all been through the same as you. I have Hashimoto's and know what you are going through, it takes a little time once you are on the right medication, Ask any questions you like and we will be glad to help,I would think If you go to an Endo, and he determines your condition, you can discuss changing any previous DX, if they are incorrect. Good Luck FTB4
