I assume you are talking about your Thyroid Stimulatoing Hormone (TSH) level. If that is the case, the doctor should have also tested for the possibility of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, by testing for TPO ab and if negative, then test for TG ab. Those antibodies are typical of Hashi's and they attack and eventually destroy your thyroid gland. You should have also been tested for Free T4, and Free T3, which are the actual thyroid hormones.
Even more important is an evaluation for the symptoms typical of hypothyroidism. So please look at this list of typical hypo symptoms and tell us which ones you have.
