Just wanted to post out of moral support. I'm also 15 weeks pregnant and only got diagnosed with Graves two weeks before I took the test! I did however carry a successful and healthy pregnancy two yrs ago when I was hypo, so it can certainly be done. Sounds like you've got all the right people in your support group :) Good luck to all of us! It feels good to know you're not the only one huh?
Just wanted to update in case anyone reads this later. Thyroid levels have been fine during the second trimester so far. Baby is doing great! :) I guess I was worried for nothing!
Wow! Yeah you are just about a month ahead of me! Very cool! All of this makes me feel so much better and to know I'm not alone. Can't wait until my next u/s! :-) thanks ladies!
I've had hypothyroidism myself for years and just found out I was pregnant in August so I know the feeling. I'm 16 weeks along and had to get my dosage upped from 100 to 125 (the first time in over 6 years, ugh!). But I have talked to many women who have had sucessful pregnancies with this problem, just make sure to keep getting your levels checked! My biggest concern was not being able to breast feed but my nutritionist told me that her sister has graves just like I do and was able to breast feed 2 out of her 3 children with no issues.
Thank you so much! I was never able to get my exact numbers from the last blood draw but was told that my levels were all within a normal range. My nurse just commented that they like to see my numbers within a much more specific range so that's why my meds were adjusted. No one seems worried, as usual lol so I will just relax and await my NT scan. :)
I was told by my dr that i will need to double my dosage during pregnancy too! I have a few friends with hypo and all have had positive healthy pregnancies! I too had a m\c prior to finding out I was hypo! I understand your concerns. I wish you well and a healthy uneventful pregnancy!
Thank you for your reply! I'm waiting for my nurse to call me back with my numbers and I can let you know.
RE is my reproductive endocronologist and NT is the nucal translucency scan, basically measuring the anatomy of the baby and checking for abnormalities and genetic defects.
What I can tell you right now is that I take levothyroxcine. My dosage was 25mcg (cut in half) prior to becoming pregnant. This dosage kept me at a normal level even through my pregnancy until my last check a few days ago. He increased it to a full tablet, so I am now taking 25mcg.
I will let you know the numbers ASAP. :-)
Although I, myslef, have not gone through a successful pregnancy while hypo (way too old!), I know that many people have.
Please post your thyroid labs with ranges. Ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own lab report.
What were your taking previously, and wha was that increased to?
I'm not familiar with the term "RE" or "NT scan". Please explain.
