I just went on Medicare the first of this month and I'm not sure this would even be an option for me. I guess if I were going to try it, I'd want to know if I could help determine my dosage, etc and not be at their mercy.
You'd have to check with labs and find out about costs; many labs will give you discounts if you have to pay out of pocket, but do have insurance, so it's worth checking out. It does sound like this might be a viable option for people who don't have insurance and can't afford treatment. I guess you're at their mercy, as with any doctor, concerning the med/dosage, etc. Still a pretty good option...
well I emailed them and asked if they did prescriptions for hypothyroidism and if I sent them a test, could hey prescribe my synthroid etc . They sent me a email back and said yes and also said they could send me orders for test but it is out of pocket....so cheaper probably just to order my own test and have one consultation...haven't tried it yet since insurance doesn't change for couple of months but it certainly is a cheaper option not to mention gas and traveling to dr appts.
I do think it would be best for someone already balanced on a dosage but I just thought it was very interesting to have this option...just hoped someone else had already tried it....definitely a option for anyone else having to pay out of pocket.....
I did a quick search... I did a quick search and it doesn't look like this is something that can be used for chronic illnesses such as thyroid, but it's worth looking into. I found one place that said a single consultation was $65, which is about 1/3 the cost of a doctor visit, so it would be worth that, just to see if they would consult on hypothyroidism, order necessary blood work and prescribe medication. With the cost of medical care and insurance skyrocketing, every chance to save money is worth a shot.
