Med switch?

I'm a 25 year old female.  I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis in 2004 after the birth of my first child and a TSH of 314!  I am on 112 mcg of levothyroxine currently and my TSH level ranges anywhere from 0.6 - 3.0.  Depending on how good I am about taking my medication!

I have yet to feel back to my "old" self.  My symptoms did improve after treatment with the medication but they have not gone away.  My hair still falls out... not in handfulls like before, but a noticable amount.  I had pretty thick hair before all of this happened and was hoping that once I was treated it would grow back.  No such luck. I have had to resort to Rogaine and thickening shampoos, but they don't seem to help either.  Its really hard for me to deal with!

I am always cold!! My hands and feet seem to be the worst!  I have to draw blood at work and I have to warn every patient I draw so they don't jump out of their skin when I touch them.  My skin is always dry, no matter how much lotion I put on.

For me the hair loss is the worst, but my mental status is right up there too.  I have had bad depression during these last few years.  Along with mood swings.  I can't concentrate and I forget things all the time.  I for the life of me can never remember what draw the silverware is in at my house.  This affects my everyday life!  I have to write myself notes and set timers!  I was a 4.0 student in high school and college and now I can't remember if I took my medication, turned off the lights, or where I am suppose to be going when I drive!

I never used to be this way and I want to get back to my old self, but my doctor says that my TSH and T4 are fine and there is no need to adjust my medication.  So why do I still have all of the symptoms?  Should I ask to be switched to a different medication?? Armour??  I just don't know what else to do.  Thanks for the help!

You might have your adrenals tested.  Adrenal fatigue has the same symptoms as low thyroid.  Get a full panel blood test including metabolic panel, B12, Vitd, cortisol and DHEA.  You might be deficient in these areas.

Armour has helped me with that brain fog  I personally find it beneficial for me. My doc and I are trying to qweek it to the right dosage. Immediately I found relief within 48 hrs. My dosage was changed recently and I am trying to listen to my body. Today I am crashed, but I have a day off and maybe as all humans I need a break. Tomorrow is back to the grind and we'll see what happens.
