How important is to do a diagonistic scan 6 months after RAI?

I've been told that I have a diagonistic scan in 1 months time
and I have to go off my meds and then I get pumped again with Radioiodine...(argh)..
I mean does this happen every 6 months?

My Tg was 3.0 unsupressed (Feb'08)
and was >1 suppressed July 07.

I go hypo when I'm off the meds. I thought my heart was going to stop last time did the Rai thing  and I had real trouble sleeping properly...
It wouldn't be so bad if only we had Thyrogen here in New Zealand..

I don't think it is colder in Christchurch than in it is in Canada.  Canada is a pretty bid place so I guess it depends where you are..

Did you go hyper while off your meds? I thought the tendency was to go hypo.  I hope your doctor will monitor you closely.  The reason for the scan is to look for recurrance, so if you didn't do it, you may be missing something important. When you say cold, is it colder than Canada in the winter?  Probably not!

Hi there
Unfortunately thyrogen isn't available here.. so its off my meds for 3 weeks.. Lets hope I can still do work etc after 3 weeks..

Christchurch is about 2 hours flying from here or 480 miles from Auckland..
It is nice, oldish english style city, but it gets mighty cold there in winter..

What happens if you don't do it?  I just about had a heart attack last time I was off my meds as my heart couldn't handle it..

This sounds like your 6 month check up scan. I had one 6 months after initial RAI. It was done with a tracer dose of RAI, so there was no need for isolation. Do they use Thyrogen where you are being treated?  If Thyrogen is used, you don't have to go off your meds.  After my 6 month scan, I had one in 1 year for a follow up. Good luck.

P.S. My daughter is planning to go to Christ Church. Is that near you?
