Recurrence diagnosed this morning

Hi all-
just got off the phone with my surgeon less than 5 minutes ago.  I have a recurrence of my papillary cancer.  I had TT in January, RAI (200 mCi) in February.  I'm completely shattered.  I doubt it's a recurrence; it was probably never ablated in the first place, which terrifies me because if the 200 RAI didn't get it, what are they going to do now?  My salivary glands are a mess now.  I know that some papillary, at some point, stops taking up RAI.  Oh God, I'm going to have to go hypo again.  I had spread to the lymph nodes before, and it looks like this is another one.  One more surgery.  I developed pneumonia after the last one and spent a week in the hospital.  I haven't told my family yet - I can't do this to them again.  Could you all spare some kind words and encouragement right now?

Awww I'm so sorry to hear this. You sound like a strong person with a good head on your shoulders, which makes me confident that you'll get through this. I've been sick for a few months now, but I haven't had to go through anything like what you've gone through. It's inspirational to hear about people such as yourself on these forums, because it helps me put things in perspective--rather than feeling sorry for myself, I keep plugging away, because eventually I'll figure out why I'm sick and then I'll feel better. Just imagine how great you'll feel when you're really finished with all of this!

We're all here for you if you need us (especially if your real family can't be--you can consider us your cyber family!). Keep us updated on how everything goes; I'll be praying for your full recovery.
