tapazole during pregnancy

hello there. here's my latest laboratory results here's my latest laboratory results: FT4: 1.30 ng/dL ( 0.61-1.25)
FT4 : 4.57pg/mL ( 2.30- 4.20)
TSH : 0.54 mU/L ( 0.35- 5.50) and pregnant, am on my 11th week. i saw my Obgyne 2 days ago ang he told me to take tapazole 1/2 tab. 3 times a week. do i have to? i have been off my medication for 10 months now, is it ok if i take again tpazole? what are the possible risk for me and the baby? thank you so much i hope you can help me cause its tormenting me.

actually, tapazole, aka methimazole is contraindicated in the first trimester (12 weeks) of pregnancy...it is associated with some specific birth defects.  PTU is the recommendation in the first trimester, after which tapazole may me used.  Often the dosage can be decreased as the pregnancy progresses and, in some instances, may be able to be discontinued in the last several weeks.  Tapazole is also contraindicated in breastfeeding.

It is wise to take the anti-thyroid med as you look borderline hyper and can have problems with premature birth if the hyperthyroidism isnt controlled.
Your baby is at more risk by NOT taking it.
It is quite safe to take all the way through your pregnancy.
Just make sure you have regular blood tests.
