inactive thyroid

I've gained about 35 lbs after a hysterectomy and I'm wondering if it may be my thyroid. How do you know if something is wrong with your thyroid?

I agree with the above. Also take into consideration your body from the surgery is changing. This type of surgery does upset your hormones.

I thyroid panel can be done to either eliminate or support this problem for you.

You go to the doctor and get a full panel blood test done for thyroid.  They will see what level your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is at.  If it is low, they will give you medication to level it out.  You might ask for your estrogen level, DHEA, cortisol and metabolic panel be tested, too.
