What happened? Did you keep taking the MMI or switch to PTU?
Methimazole doesn't start working imediatately. 4 days isn't enough time to get full relief from taking methimazole. I can tell you that hyperthroidism can cause you to sweat like that. Also, the anxiety from sweating can be an issue. After taking methimazole for a few weeks... the sweating calmed down. Also, taking a short time anxiety medication helped on event.
Hyperthroidism can cause other illnesses. Heart problems being one. Personal expience is you don't want to not take medication for Hyperthroidism. I will be having my thyroid removed due the a hot nodule
that has lead to hyperthroidism. I have had a resent heart issue ending up in the hospital that has been linked to hyperthyroidism. Hyperthroidism puts stress on your heart. Medication is important to keep your thyroid in check.
Hope this is helpful
If you can deal with sweating and have no any major issue than you can go on with it. when you think you have serious side effect you can switch to PTU and most of have no major issues with it.
I had been on Methimazole for my hyperthyroidism but the reason why I had to stop mine was because of hives. As for profuse sweating--I had the profuse sweating (amongst many other unpleasant symptoms) BEFORE I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism (Grave's for me). I have been taking PTU (prophylthiouracil) for almost 4 years and no major side effects.
