Update - my thyroid appt.

Great appt.  Took a few vials of blood. .Doc agreed to increase my Synthroid and the bloodwork will be used to help determine where to go with the meds.  He was super and listened and was quite pleased I came to him vs. waiting 7 weeks for an endo appt since my endo left the practice I went to for this.  He also will run some uric acid serum tests bcz the last kidney stone I passed on New Years Day was different looking than any others .. clear and smooth like a cape may diamond and a bit yellow in tint .. could have been a uric acid stone . It was like a pearl nestled inside a chunk of charcoal like debris 4-5mm big that crushed in my hand when I looked @ it and this crystal was inside about 1-2mm .... soooooooo we'll see on that .. and, of course, I dropped this little crystal so no lab analysis will be happening anytime soon.

Back to the thryroid.  Doc agrees that we cannot pass all this onto menopause stuff with my thyroid history and symptoms until we see the whole picture.

On a sidenote, last night I cut myself with the point of steak knife and was on the fence .. stitches or no stitches .. and didn't go .. he took a look and cringed, "it's too late now" .. so steri strips and a script for antibiotic to have on hand if it gets infected.  I know silly me.  I should have gone to the ER.  Not huge, but kind of gaping and all swollen .. I was tring to pry out a yankee candle and used the knife and, well, slipped and OUCH!

One last update .. they ran urinalysis dip and blood and some WBC's showed up so off to the lab for a culture.

Soooooooo I'll let you know where I am with the thryoid stuffs later this week.

Hey Stella, listen --------------> 1/2 price sale the day after Xmas!!!  It was a Balsm & Cedar potpourri tart that I was prying out of the tart burner hee hee hee and ker plunk, the knife slipped hee hee hee ---------> moral of story:  to remove wax from a candle holder you put the WHOLE holder in the freezer for about 15mins and then it just pops right out!!!!  And, is safe.

Stop N Shop makes a brand called Village Candle and that is great, too and cheaper!

So you all know that Yankee Candle qualifies to post on thyroid since it is my addiction since having to wait 9 very long weeks for my thyroid surgery in '07 ... I used it as a stressbuster.

Hi.  So sorry to hear about the kidney stone.  OUCH!  Though it's good that it passed.  I truly hope your lab work turns out good for you.  As for the bld and the WBC count on the U/A that could that be all due to your kidney issues?   I hope you feel better none the less and you get some good results.  Take care and BEST of wishes.

Hi Totie .. we know ea. other from MSK community.  Uric acid is another type of kidney stone aside from the calcium oxalate ones you probably make.  The Urocit-K is helpful to stop the formation of calcium oxalate stoens somehow by altering the ph of the urine, etc.  The good news with uric acid stones is that they are treatable with meds to prevent them from forming along with gout .... alpurinol is the med I believe.  The bad news is that they are "crystal clear" and elude sophisticated equipment being transparent they don't show up on ultrasounds and x rays .. not sure on CT Scans and MRI's. though.

Glad to hear your doctor actually treated you like a human, and not a file.

What is uric acid? I was put on potassium citrate for something in my urine, too much acid maybe, not sure. I go to the urologist Thurs. so I will try to remember to ask what it is for.
