New Lab Question

Test Name          Test Result                   Refrence Range

T3 Uptake                39                                 22-35%

(TSH) 3rd Gen         5.37, 6.29                       .40-4.5 mIU/L

thyroxine, free, direct   1.12                             .8-1.8  ng/dl

Ok, these were the labs i had done two weeks ago before starting thyroid again. The natruopath only had seen the TSH of 6.29 when he decided to put me on thyroid . The other results were done by another doctor. But the nautropath did realize he should have ran the free's, he just wasent expecting my thyroid to be lower when it was at about 3 TSH on no thyroid two months prior. I guess my question is does it even look like i should have started thyroid again or not? In the other doctor's notes she wrote restest in 6 months free throxine is normal she said. Any help would be great.

I agree with Deb...move slowly.  Very gentle coaxing is what thyroid needs more than a drop kick.  If you're not off your personal "ideal" FT3 and FT4 by too much, it's best to move cautiously.  In the end, you get your meds adjusted much more quickly that way.  The problem with drop kicking the old thyroid is that it tends to kick back!

I take 32.5 of Westhroid to start out and restest in three weeks. I could barely walk up my stairs or stay awake longer than a few hours just a few days ago. Surprising for not being to far off. I already feel a pretty decent improvement in my energy and fatigue. I plan on drop kickin this thyroid thing right back in its track this time around. thanks so much for the lab question help.

According to your labs and in my opinion, yes, you should have started meds.  Your TSHs are above range (currently accepted range is 0.3-3.0...your lab is using an obsolete range).  Your FT4 is very low in the range.  Many people do not feel comfortable until the FT4 is in the upper half or even upper third of the range. Six months from now you might be very, very miserable.

Congratulations on finding a doctor who will treat before all labs are out of range and you are suffering all kinds of hypo symptoms.  What are your symptoms?  What meds are you taking, and what's the dose?
