As Thomthod mentioned Tumeric/curcumin is one, rosemarry is another. You must also eliminate all processed foods and sugar/carbs from your diet. Gluten free diet will also help. Try it for three months. Add omega 3, vitamind3/3000iu. There are other things you can do. Let us know in couple of months or may be in a month how it is going. Add a good multi like Natures way alive for women which has selenium in the right dose. Eat healthy and eliminate all junk/fast foods. Good luck
Tumeric/curcumin has been known to cut down on internal inflamation.
There aren't any herbs that will make your thyroid work better. Selenium has been shown to help in the conversion of FT4 to FT3. Some people also say that it will help lower antibody levels, if you have them, but I've never seen scientific proof of that.
Can you find a doctor who order the necessary labs? Do you know if you have Hashimoto's?
Hello and thanks for you reply!
Could you give me more details, i've never heard of those herbs before!
Think i should add that i'm also a diagnosed IBS patient.
There is lot you can do through nutrition and healthy eating. There are anti inflammatory herbs you can take and make sure you add 200 mcg of selenium , which is in most good vitamins.
I don't have insurance yet, will hopefully do in a month or so!
Some drs over here don't subscribe the tests, last time i got the dr to do so via my psychologist who wanted to be sure that my depression wasn't due to hormones etc.
Yes we get T4 medication here, as well. That's the main med that is prescribed for hypothyroidism.
I wasn't aware that you weren't in the U.S. Sometimes doctors won't order adequate thyroid testing and we have to take things into our own hands, or if someone doesn't have insurance, it's less expensive to go through these websites than it is to through a doctor and lab... we can't get labs without a doctor's order. There are websites from which we can order blood work. As I said above, we order the tests we want online, the website e-mails us a lab order, signed by a doctor and tells us which lab to go to. We go get the blood draw, then they e-mail the results.
Don't you have State run medical program, where everyone gets the same care?
Why thank you for you reply Barb135!
I'm taking T4, don't know if you get it where you are, i'm in Greece.
Wow, you get the blood drawn yourself?
We can't edit our comments, once we post them.
A lot of us can relate. It sounds like you need an increase in your thyroid hormone dosage. What medication are you taking?
Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is see a doctor and get your thyroid hormone levels tested to see if you need an increase. The tests you need are TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. You can also order those tests online, yourself for about $100. You order the tests, they send you a lab order, you get the blood drawn and they send you the results.
You'll have to have a doctor review them and write a script for thyroid med. There are free clinics you can go to, or those that charge based on income. Going to one of those, will only get you a TSH test, which isn't enough to tell what's going on, though it's a start.
Don't know how to edit OP , forgot to mention i have hypothyroidism and i've been on 75mg for about 10 years now.
