What do you have on your tongue?  I'm sure it's not a thyroid.  Your thyroid should be in the center of your neck, just below the adam's apple.

Anyone without a thyroid would need to be on replacement hormones, because you can't live without thyroid hormones.

The only way anyone can tell if you are on too much medication is to see what your most current labs are, along with reference ranges, and look at symptoms.

As long as your hormone levels are watched very carefully, you should be able to get pregnant and have healthy babies; adequate thyroid levels are crucial for proper development of a baby.

Hi Lauren, there is absolutely no reason you shouldn't be able to get pregnant without a thyroid. Only if you have some gynaecological condition would you not be able to get pregnant.

Often when people are born without a thyroid it is due to the area where in embryonic state the tissue was not made. There is a long pathway from the back of the tongue all the way down to the inner chest where thryoid tissue can grow. It can be a small amount in the throat or another area that can function and still release thryoid hormones, some people don't need medication, however most do.

It could be a thyroglossal cyst rather than thyroid tissue growing, this is the same area as you are describing and can be dealt with. You would need to get a doctor to have a good look.

Hope that helps!
