Do you have the actual results of the T3 and T4 tests? Are they FREE T3 and FREE T4? Reference ranges must be included with results since they vary lab to lab.
"After two months if my daughter is found have normal tsh level, she will half it to 12.5 mcg." Your doctor is paying too much attention to TSH and not enough to FT3 and FT4.
How much does your daughter weigh?
Her T3 and T4 test are found to be normal and with in range.
We go to nearby Endocrinologist and she has said it is initial stage and she has prescribed Thyronorm 25 mcg for two months.
After two months if my daughter is found have normal tsh level, she will half it to 12.5 mcg.
But we are thinking like that "25 mcg is too high for a child of 5.5 years.
a child of 5.5 years must be given 12.5 mcg only".
Please help in this.
TSH is a screening test at best. So, the next step would be to have her tested for FREE T3 and FREE T4. TSH is a pituitary hormone; T3 and T4 are the actual thyroid hormones. Once you know her FT3 and FT4 levels, you will be in a better position to decide. Also, FREE T3 and FREE T3 are different from total T3 and total T4. Be sure to ask for the FREEs.
You might also want to ask her doctor to test the thyroid antibodies, especially since her mother is hypo as well. Thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOab) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TGab) indicate Hashimotot's thyroiditis when elevated. Hashi's is an autoimmune thyroid disease (tends to run in families). The antibodies destroy thyroid function progressively. It is treatable with replacement hormones, but not curable. Does her mother take thyroid medication?
Considering her symptoms, it sounds like your daughter ought to be on thyroid meds. She already has several symptoms, and it's not good for a growing child to be hypo.
Hi,
The lab reference range is 0.7 - 5.7 which is for for 1-18 years.
We have noticed Constipation,Intolerance to Cold, Fatigue, body ache symptoms.
Her weight is 21 kg now and she is also not good in eating food.
We have done only thyroid test only.
Since her mother has thyroid, so we think that it is better to test thyroid also in daughter.
Please let us know whether it is early stage of thyroid and whether it is curable?
Do you have the lab reference ranges for your daughter's TSH? Ranges for TSH change by age since children's TSH tends to be higher than adults.
Does she have any hypo symptoms? Fatigue or drowsiness? Weight gain? Intolerance to cold? Depression? Constipation? Anything you've noticed?
Did they run any other thyroid tests besides TSH?
