Adrenal supplements?

Do they work or are they necessary? Went to a whole foods and found a section on ardenal supplements. One in particular said that it came from the actual organ of an animal. Didn't buy it cause I don't know if they would interfere with my thyroid med or if they actually work.
Any one know about these supplements? Thanks in advance. :)

From what I've read, like OTC thyroid supplements, OTC adrenal supplements are not allowed to have measurable hormones in them.  They merely have ground up animal adrenal tissue, with no actual hormones.  Their benefit would questionable, at best.

IMO, you'd be much better off to check with your health food store or someone at Whole Foods and ask them about adaptogens, which are herbs that adapt to the needs of your body.  There are several of them, including, but not limited to ashwaganda, astragalus, panax ginseng, licorice root and a variety of mushrooms.

Be very careful of licorice root, as it does have a tendency to cause sodium retention in some people (myself included), increasing blood pressure and causing swelling and edema of hands, feet and legs.

I've taken adaptogens, when I was pretty sure I had adrenal issues.  They were "somewhat" helpful, but I think the best thing to do is find a doctor who will test and treat properly, rather than taking matters into your own hands.
