Had a wonderful Endo appt and so relieved to have found a great new endo .....

I got in on a cancellation and the appt was 45mins with the Dr who *listened*.

First off, he is rerunning the Vit D test to be certain we get low results again.  He also added thyroglobulin level I guess to compare to 2007 before the surgery.  He agreed that I am ok having the other side intact still so this is good news to have a new endo and have him agree that my small cancer tumors were incidental, no lymph node and to watch the heck out of the other side is ok.

He was a bit concerned how/why my Vit D would drop like this w/o a reason, so he took the Intact Parathyroid blood test and the uric acid one for the stone I passed that the family doc forgot to do.  He also requested a copy of my last 24hr urine from the Urologist.

He said not to take the Vit D until the labs are back, etc.

I got so confused about the parathyroid, calcium, Vit D kidney connection but there is one there someplace.

So I sit and wait like the rest of us on the community ......................................when a person has the Big C in their history, you never really rest fully at ease until those possibilities are ruled out one by one and I share this with those who read because you may be faced with an abnormal test at some point after your diagnosis and it resurfaces some of the emotions you thought you had 100% stored away for good.

Another few days and I'll have an answer .....................

C~

Thanks all for your replies!  So nice to hear from you all and know this is a major concern we have .. finding a great endo!

Pep .... great idea for a question ---- maybe we should do a poll on your ? about if we tell our docs we are on this community, a CL, etc.  In a nutshell, I generally used to never tell my docs about being a CL here until the Thyroid Trackers were released .... now it naturally comes up in conversation cause I tell all my docs about these trackers!!!!  But I am very careful to premise I help those within my scope of my own experience with lending a hand with support when I can and the response is really very positive usually .. Usually the Dr's respect our knowledge, but not always and it can boomerang .. that is when I leave the appt not a happy person LOL.

Congratulations on finding the new endo.  Sounds like that kind of dr is few and far between, so enjoy it while you have it.

I have an appt on the 27th with my new endo - hope it goes as well as yours.
Thanks for something encouraging.

Hey Cheryl,

I did not know you were having issues with your thyroid still and your doc! I  too after I had my partial just after you I have had nothing but problems, then finding a dr that would actually listen is a whole other challenge!!! I have seen my new doc once and so far so good! I have no tested + for thyroid antibodies and I will see her again this coming month for a follow  up visit. I sure wish you the best of luck with this new doc! and with your thyroid. Keep in  touch

I have told my doctor about this wonderful group and his response was "don't beleive everything you read on the internet".  Actually he told me to stay away from the interent when it pertaining to my health.

Glad you have a great new doc!  But I'm curious.  When you walk into a new endo's office, do you tell them right away that you are a CL of an online thyroid disorders forum causing deep breaths, open mouths and possibly awe?  Or do you wait for a more appropriate moment when you're heavily invested in a treatment plan to spring it on them?

I'm saying all of this in jest, but I truely do wonder if you or anyone else here, ever mentions any of our "online" endevors to their docs?  I never say that I correspond online with like-minded individuals.  I just casually mention that "must have read somewhere on the internet", if I want to get a point across.

Maybe this should be a topic?  Because I really do wonder what people say to their docs when they act stupidly or say things like "We don't test for Free T3 here, it's unnecessary".  And I see stuff like that posted here ALL THE TIME!

Hi C~
Glad you were able to find a nice new endo who listens.
I really wish i could fine one too.  I kinda like the one I have, he just irks my nerves sometimes.

I don't fully understand all that you wrote about the vitamin D,  but as always we are wanting good results.

Keep us posted
