I had my TT on Dec 3, and it is day 8. I had the stitch removed a few days ago, and still have the steri-stips (that are starting to curl on the ends now). I had a ~super~ skilled and very meticulous surgeon, which really helps in the recovery. I haven't read this anywhere else so I'll tell you what I'm having it do..which ~may~ assist the recovery time. After surgery, I had to keep my head elevated at 30' incline while in the bed (using 2-3 pillows like a steps and a back pillow with arms)..and now I have to keep my chin down (like I'm reading a book) so I won't "have an ugly scar" and to "not exercise my neck". I have done light straightening up (making bed, hanging up clothes in closet)..but no heavy cleaning. I can start ~gradually~ lifting my head after this coming Tuesday (day 11). My surgeon said that the neck heals very quickly, and I was shocked that on day 7 my stitch was healed. I would agree with redheadaussie and blsdnsvd, that it all depends on you..because there's only one you so we don't have another to compare with. ;)
I believe that it solely depends on the person and their symptoms. Most people are up and about sooner than others. After my surgery, it took me about two to three weeks to heal from the surgery alone due to soreness of the operation site and healing and i also had discomfort in my chest area. Then you start the med's that will replace the thyroid function and that in itself is a whole other process and once again, it depends on the the individual.
Usually only a few weeks for the actual internal stitching and outer healing. As for work, it is entirely dependent on what sort of work. Someone working in an office can pretty much go back as soon as they feel able. Some people go back in a few days. If it involves heavy lifting or manual labour then a full two weeks should be given to allow proper healing.
It really is an individual thing, and one no one can say, you must be off work for certain length of time.
