thyroid

my physcian felt nodules around my thyroid. i have been on synthroid for many years...hypoactive....i recently went for a ultrasound of my thyroid...which results were enlarged thyroid lobes which demonstrate diffuse heterogeneous echotexture and nodularity w/o evidence of definite discrete nodules. thyroid lobes are symmetrically enlarged. right thyroid lobe measures 7.6x2.5x3.4cm. left lobe 7.4.x 2 x 2.5 cm. the isthumus appears thickened and measures 6mm. the thyroid lobes appear nodular throughout w/o evidence of discrete thyroid nodules......i just went for a nuclear thyroid uptake scan......my question will i possibly have to have a biopsy.....thank you

You should always get a copy of your labs each time, for your records.  Your doctor is obligated to give you a copy upon request.  I keep all my labs together, and each time, I write on the report, which med I was on, along with the dosage and symptoms. That helps me decide which levels I need to aim for.

Many of us have nodules on our thyroid, but don't need biopsy, since you have no dominant nodules, so I can't imagine that you will need a biopsy.  It sounds like your thyroid is inflamed.

Do you have symptoms of still being hypo?  Do you have recent blood labs that you could post, along with the reference ranges, so we can see where your levels are?
