Hi there,
I have no idea if this is the right place to ask a question but out of helplessness, here I go.
I have a 17 year old daughter that was diagnosed with Tourettes about 6 months ago. Her ticks started off small and have recently progressed to her hitting herself in the chest and occasionally in the head. We have taken her to her family practice doctor who then referred us to the Neurologist. The Neurologist confirmed the Tourettes diagnosis and put back in the care of the Family Practice doctor. She also has anxiety and depression in which she takes meds for. Of course, they have had to stop all medicine to slowly try to balance meds for Touretts and the depression. I understand this is a slow progression of trying medicines slowly before adjustments are made. Unfortunately, the worsening of the symptoms increases depression.
She does have Occupational therapy starting in a couple of weeks to help her with her Tourettes.
As a father, it kills me to be powerless and not be able to help. It's hard for me to believe that there is not anything more that can be done. She says everything fine and it is something that she just has to live with but I know deep down it is hurting her deeply.
Any words of wisdom or hope would help.
Thank you
