Medication for Tourette Syndrome

My daughter is 6yrs old and has been recently diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome.  She blinks, rubs her legs and bends her arms all the time.  Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it.  I have been given a prescription for Clonidine.  Has anyone tried Clonidine?  Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?

My son, who is 9, was given a prescription for clonidine about a month ago, we just finished our first bottle of 30 pills.  I have not seen much of a difference with his tics.  His were vocal and facial.  His vocal has decreased some, but I think that is more so with the other methods we are working on with him.  However, his tics got considerably worse if he was tired.  He was having a very difficult time sleeping and clonidine relaxes him enough so that he can sleep for about 4 hours at one time, before we were lucky if he slept for 2 hours at once during the night.  There are side effects because it is used to lower blood pressure and it might cause some weight gain.

I guess I don't have an opinion, good or bad, about clonidine.  We are trying it as a place to start.  I would be very interested in hearing from others also who have tried clonidine or any other type of med. that has worked.
