just diagnosed

my daughter started jerking her head and arm out of no where about two weeks ago. this is the first time. since then it has been nonstop ranging from bad to just awful. lastnight she was shaking her head really fast then flopping around like a fish. plus she was crying alot cause she said it hurts. last thursday we were told she has tourettes and that was that, get a different doc that can prescribe this medicine and have a good life, blah blah blah. so does any of this sound right? im really lost and confused and upset and lost and using a serious run-on sentence but thats how it feels right now. can anyone tell me something? we are trying to get her in to a doc asap this week. oh she is 9 yrs. old.

It would be my opinion from what you have written that your Dr was rather unhelpul.  While i wouldn't necessarlly rule out tourettes as it can occur in young children.  If this only began two weeks ago i would think the Dr should try to rule out other causes for the tics.  I would try to find another Dr who will carry out a more extensive investigation. In the meantime give your daughter lots of love and reassurance also try keeping a diary and see if there are any triggers.  If it is tourettes it can be managed with support so you won't be alone.  Good luck to you all.
