Rhomboid scar tissue pain? Help!

I have pain in both rhomboids and massive build up of scar tissue on both sides. When it gets really bad, you can see a bulge on both sides if I aggravate it. Ironically, the only thing that helps is ice and grinding the muscles against hard objects which provides relief, but aggravates the muscle and causes, you guessed it, more scar tissue. I tried all the muscle relaxants. I'm about to go pick up a $200 prescription for lidocaine patches. It's a vicious circle and i'm going out of my mind. I want to get surgery to remove the fist-siized scar tissue. Has anyone tried this??

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Since you are having repeated injury and massive build up of scar tissue, the cause of injury needs to be diagnosed: over use of computer, lifting weights, poor posture, playing racket or ball games etc. Once the cause is taken care of the injury will reduce. Alternate hot and cold therapy will help.
However, you must consult a sports injury specialist and you may be advised to go for rehabilitative physical therapy. This will take care of reducing repeated trauma and the symptoms too. After examining you, only the specialist can determine whether surgery will help or not.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Ask the doctor or search for information on transverse friction, stretching methods, forms of "massage techniques",that help pull apart micro adhesions in the soft tissue, resulting in inflammation, signaling the tissue repair process. If it doesn't help shrink the scar tissue, hopefully it will bring you some  pain relief, with out causing further damage.Good Luck
