torn tendon injury not healing

I tore the tendon in my ring finger ( in April ) and wore a splint for 8 weeks, 24 hours a day, then only at night for 3 weeks.  It is still swollen and tender and I can't straighten it unless I do it with my other hand.  I had xrays in April and the Dr said it was just a torn tendon.  Is this normal or should I get a second opinion?

Your doctor might recommend physical therapy -
Buy a soft ball and squeeze it from time to time.  Soak your hand in warm water with Epsom salts.  Then try an ice pack.
Sometimes the muscle will release if these measures are taken.  When the tendon is torn, the muscles have to take over and it is quite possible the muscle is in spasm.
    Wishing you the best...

There is no point in getting a second opinion.  The xray would have showed a broken bone.  Your finger would have been strapped up to the next finger to keep it straight and broken bones take about 6 weeks to mend.

torn tendons take much longer.
I damaged my fibrial posterial tendon (at the back of my leg) by using the treadmill at the gym.  I couldn't use my let for 9 months because of the swelling and pain.

As you are concerned, you should see your doctor to put your mind at ease.

Best wishes.
