Several months ago, I was diagnosed with having a large hydrocele on my left testicle that seemed to come from nowhere. I've had multiple ultrasounds and with each one, there are structural changes to the testicle mainly size. The hydrocele is still present. I've been seeing a Urologist who has been wishy washy to say the least. She tells me one thing one visit and then tells me the complete opposite the next with no explanation as to what changed. When I question her, she raises her voice in an attempt to shut me up rather than help me understand (I have never been disrespectful to her.) She ordered a CT scan which I had, but was forced to try and interpret myself because nobody called me with the results. However, at my next appointment, before I even mentioned the CT Scan, she commented that she personally called me with the results. I've never challenged her.
Today, was another follow-up. The ultrasound results show that my testicle is smaller and the hydrocele is stable. The size has gone down from where I started, but it is still present and there has been no decrease in size from two months ago. Hearing this, my doctor stated that it was time to go forward with the removal. I was relieved.
Then she wanted to examine me herself. She took one look and reversed course. There will be no surgery now. It's too small. She did notice that the bottom of my testicle is firm to the touch, so I will have a follow-up in two months time. There will be nothing done about the hydrocele.
To say I'm frustrated does not come close. I've been fighting for care at this place since I ended up doubled over in pain in the emergency room because of the Epididymitis this caused. I still have pain whenever I become aroused. The er told me they'd make a referral and they blew it off. I had to have another office call before they took me seriously.
Can someone please tell me when a hydrocelectomy would be necessary and when would a doctor choose not to do the procedure? Everything online says surgery is done if it's large, or painful, or bothersome - apparently all relative to the doctor's opinion. What about if it's causing changes to my testicle? Is that concerning to anybody but me? Please help.
