KIDNEY STONE REMOVAL BY LASER

Hi There,

I would be very interested to know other peoples experience of this procedure because had I known the amount of pain and discomfort I suffered after the anaesthetic wore off I wouldn't have had this operation at all.

Regards,

Evanray

Yes, I had a stent left in because my ureatha tube from my kidney was narrow my consultant said but I didn't expect it to be so long when the nurse removed it for me ( about 16 inches or so)by pulling the string that was hanging out of my penis. The pain I suffered was at its worst after the pain relief (morphine) wore off at home within 24 hours. The dull ache I felt in my back gradually became a very harsh pain that caused me to phone the NHS helpline to ask what I can take to mask the pain.
Now that its been taken out I only have a dull ache left in my back that is manageable.
Thank you very much for your reply.

I've had about 80 laser-cystoscopy's performed for stone removal, and I can honestly say that it's never "hurt" after the procedure, per se.

Yes, it's uncomfortable, and burns a bit the first time you try and urinate, but besides being a bit sore, there shouldn't really be "pain".

If you have a considerable amount of pain, you really should talk to your urologist. Did they leave a stent in? It may be that the stent is causing you pain.

Just a thought.

Good luck.
