What are symptoms of Lymphoma Cancer?

hubby had a CT Scan of the lower stomach, pelvic and scrotum areas yesterday. They showed some swollen lymph nodes that are pressing on  veins causing edema in the pelvic, scrotum and penis. The Doctor said not to get to concerned but it could be lymphoma, but he needs to see a Specialist to find out what the cause of the swollen nodes are. We are trying to get an appointment for next week to see the guy he recommended. Mean while hubby is freaking out thinking he has cancer. This all started after we got back from Costa Rica  May 26th. The swelling started in the feet, ankles and legs, then progressed to the pelvic and scrotum, penis area where it has stayed since June 6th.. We thought maybe his Blood Pressure meds so saw his cadiologist. After numerous expensive tests, EKG, Echogram, Nuclear Stress Test and an angioplasty and a change in meds. Told us nothing wrong with heart, main arteries or drugs and referred him back to his primary care doctor, who said yeah, you have fluid retention, we can do a CT Scan to see if it shows anything. It did, and he is now scared to death. There is no pain, just the swelling. As long as he stays off is feet it goes down some, but does not go completely away. As soon as he gets up starts moving around or tries to go to work he swells right back up. After the change n his BP Meds, the swelling is no longer in the feet and ankles, just the pelvic, scrotum and penis. He is 64 and has never had any health issues other than high blood pressure which is controlled with the meds. He is not and has never been overweight. Any help with what type of symptoms lymphoma cancer has or any ideas on what else this may be would be greatly appreaciated.

Hi,

Lymphoma generally presents with a lump, usually along areas with known lymph node chains. If the lymph nodes get big enough, they may obstruct the drainage of fluid and hence there may be swelling as was described. The obstruction is generally progressive, and so an intermittent course as you have described would be unusual.

Other symptoms may be fever , weight loss, and night sweats.

It may be a good idea to see another doctor if you are not happy with the way things have been going on with the first. Make sure you are able to provide all the previous tests in order to make the most of the second opinion.

Stay positive.
